Habits that could hurt your relationship

relationship
Romance isn’t just about a box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day. A satisfying relationship can also make people feel happy and healthy. But keep in mind that successful relationships aren’t just about rainbows and butterflies-a healthy partnership requires communication, respect, and plenty of good habits from both people. So when dating that special someone, avoid stalking their ex on Facebook, keeping feelings bottled up, and splitting the double cheeseburger every night . These (and 17 other) bad habits could make a great relationship take a turn for the worse.
Trying to improve him/her: News flash: There’s no such thing as a perfect person, so don’t expect unrealistic changes. Reminding him or her to make the bed is one thing, but trying to radically change shyness or anxiety is another—and could be ignoring the underlying causes for those issues in the first place.
Finding faults with the fam: The ’rents may be harder to handle than your significant other. But even if there’s some clashing of heads, don’t focus on the family’s faults. Getting criticism from family members can make people feel depressed and hostile—which means some tense holiday dinners. Besides, the situation can’t be worse than what Gaylord went through.
Engaging in constant PDA: Getting it on in public can not only make bystanders uncomfortable, it may also compensate for a lack of real communication. Stick to hand-holding and quick kisses, and save the rest for the bedroom (or the cell phone?).
Fighting in public: As if PDA weren’t bad enough, arguing in public can embarrass the couple and make everyone around feel awkward, too. Talk it out in private, please.
Avoiding fighting: Love isn’t all good, all the time. Disagreements are bound to happen, and arguments can be a healthy part of a relationship. Never having conflict may make compromise impossible. Just don’t make fighting an all-day affair.
Not talking it out: If something is wrong, the other person probably can’t read your mind. When a problem comes up, speak up at the right time. One study suggests young couples are less stressed when they talk out their issues than when they keep their feelings bottled up. And don’t forget to say, “I love you.” Expressing emotions—positive and negative—can benefit that bond .
Forgetting to forgive: People make mistakes, and holding on to grudges may not only hurt a relationship—it could also cause unwanted stress and anxiety. Sympathy may be easier to give if we realize it will benefit our health .
Timing discussions badly: Conversations about important issues, like relationship expectations and financial blunders, all have their time and place. Don’t bring up serious topics when someone’s stressed, like at the end of the workday or right before hosting a party. Set up a time to talk when both people are relaxed.
Keeping score: Sure, relationships should be about give and take, but don’t keep track of every little detail (For example: I paid for the last six dinners, and you only paid for five!). It can cause unnecessary tension.
Being melodramatic: No relationship is perfect. So don’t create unnecessary drama in every scenario. If a mate forgets to take out the garbage, there’s no need for a scene. Take a few breaths and address the problem calmly.
Spying: When two people want to make it work, trust is key . Have confidence in your mate and respect their privacy: Don’t snoop through texts, emails, or bedroom drawers. (Definitely don’t use this!)
Allowing jealousy to take over: Doubting your partner may be a symptom of a larger problem: relationship insecurity. And women who feel insecure in their relationships may be at greater risk for health issues like a weakened immune system . Some advice for reducing envy, at least temporarily? Stay off Facebook and other social networking sites .
Letting go: Sometimes when partners feel too secure with each other, they end up putting on a few pounds, possibly because they’re less physically active. Try being a power couple to stay both happy and healthy.
Constantly comparing: Forget the ex and stop comparing a current partner with a person from the past. This could lead to unrealistic expectations.
Doing everything together: Everyone needs some alone time (yep, even hopelessly devoted couples). Solitude may even enhance relationships, making time together more valuable.
Lying: Little white lies can add up and ruin a relationship that should be built on honesty. There is wiggle room, of course: “Sweetie, that homemade dinner tasted great…”
Not being honest with yourself: Don’t just be honest with a companion. Stay real about what you need in order to stay satisfied. Is a long distance relationship really worth the work? Is it okay that they’re working all the time?
Lacking self-confidence: Not feeling confident in a relationship can really do some damage: Low self-esteem is sometimes linked to low sex drive, which could make things less heated in the bedroom. Getting active, setting goals, and even smiling can improve self-confidence. But don’t forget that an unhealthy relationship can actually cause low-self esteem, so steer clear of someone who makes you feel less than great.
Forgetting why you’re in it: Remember to ask yourself why you two are dating, and what you want out of it. Does a partner want to put a ring on it while you want to remain casual? Being with someone for the wrong reasons is one slippery slope!
Taking him or her for granted: Always remember why you love that special someone. Showing gratitude and paying attention to that good person by your side will only make the relationship stronger.

My wife was deflowered right before me

“I dated my girl for three years without sex. For her, I decided to remain celibate because she wasn’t ready for it.
After our Traditional marriage, she still refused and wouldn’t let me touch her at all.
We however fixed our wedding date. On my bachelor’s eve, my friends were around with their girlfriends.
I really wanted to have my woman to myself that night and I spoke to her about it but she turned me down as usual and begged me to wait a little longer. I agreed after all, we would be married soon.
At last D-DAY finally came and I was waiting patiently for the wedding ceremony to be over.
At 6pm, we were home relaxing. I called  my wife and asked that we  take a shower together, she said she was shy and cannot come. I didn’t force her.
She however had her bath first and I had mine later. When I finished, I came out to meet my wife asleep.
I joined her in bed, kissed her and she woke up. I’m not even sure she was really asleep. I started making advances because I really needed it. I had waited for too long.
My beloved wife started crying and begging me to wait till nightfall, that she needed to get some rest and when she wakes up, I’ll do all I so desire to do with her. I couldn’t hold it anymore but I managed to control the urge.
At about 9pm or there about, we heard a knock on the door, and the person behind said he had come to drop a parcel sent to us by my mother.
I went to get the door and I was shocked to see five armed men in mask.

I begged them not to harm us. They asked for money but we had no money at home, after all we just got married.
To cut the story short, these men took turns in raping my wife.
She got disvirgin by the first right in front of me. Right in my own eyes.
I couldn’t bear it. I cried as I watched those heartless men force themselves on my wife.
They didn’t leave her until she was unconscious. After the entire tragedy, I called neighbours and we rushed her to the hospital.
After two days, she regained consciousness. I made sure she was fine.
But really guys, I cannot forget that day, My wife was disvirgined right in my presence.
I can’t touch her no more, i don’t even crave for her anymore.

I cannot live with her anymore. I want to file a divorce already. What would you advise me to do?”

My husband allows another man to make love to me, woman tells court

Igando (Lagos State) – A five-year-old marriage is on the brink of collapse as Mrs Musilimat Olasuyi told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos that her husband, Oluwagbemiga, permitted another man to sleep with her in their matrimonial home.
The 48-year-old trader told the court on Monday that the man made love to her in her matrimonial home with her husband’s approval.
“It was not my fault.
“ I did not voluntarily submit myself but the man in question charmed me to make love to me with my husband’s agreement all because of his selfish ambition,” she said.
The petitioner said that her husband threw her belongings out of her matrimonial home during her absence during which her over N800, 000 kept inside her different boxes were stolen.
“I went to the hospital to take care of my daughter from my first marriage, who suffered from gas explosion.
“There, I was told that my husband came with some boys to our matrimonial home to pack all my belongings outside.
“After some days; I came home and I discovered that all my boxes and bags had been ransacked; some were missing and my money stolen.
“My jewelery valued at N250, 000 and the N250, 000 given to me by my son-in law to start the construction works on his landed property close to us were missing. “Also, N100,000 for my customer’s cassava (garri), N250,000 being our mosque’s money kept in my custody and N30,000 my trading money got missing.’’
Musilimat submitted a written petition to the court seeking redress and judicial actions against her husband. The estranged wife wanted to know if it was proper for her husband to throw her property out without an order from the court. She also demanded to know if her husband would not be liable for the cost of her lost money and property.
The petitioner was also requesting the court to know if her husband should not pay for inconvenience as she and the only child of the marriage are homeless.
She pleaded with the court to dissolve the union saying that she no longer love her husband. However, the petitioner’s husband, Oluwagbemiga, accused his wife of infidelity. “My wife does not have respect for her marriage vow, she makes love to her concubine on our matrimonial bed.”
The 55-year-old sand supplier also said that his wife was fetish. “My wife is diabolical, she comes home with different charms and objects; she gave me a soap on nine consecutive times to bath with.”
According to him, he had given his wife a three-month quit notice to vacate his house but she refused. “I gave her a quit notice to leave my house; she told me to do my worse that she was going nowhere.
“So, I do not have any other option than to pack her things out from my house,” he said. The respondent consented to the dissolution of marriage, saying the love between the two of them had long faded. Responding to Musilimat’s petition, the court’s president, Mr Akin Akinniyi, said that it was wrong in a valid marriage for a husband to pack out his wife’s belongings from their matrimonial home.
“It is legally wrong for a man to throw out his wife’s property. “The respondent should have requested for the return of the dowry he paid on the wife from the wife’s parents.
“Better still, he should have sought the dissolution of the marriage at the court of law before such an action could take place. “The husband should have rented another apartment for the petitioner and the child since he does not want her again.
“He should have moved her belongings there for safe custody, before the petitioner’s return.

“The husband will be responsible for any cost of missing valuables and the wife is entitled to compensation,’’ he said. Akinniyi urged the estranged couple to maintain peace and adjourned the case until April 26 for judgment. (NAN)
